They’re heeeere!

Apple revised the lineup of laptops (except the MacBook) with faster processors, better graphics cards and no increase in price.

The new beasts are quite nice. Same case design as the current models, but all but the 13″ have the new i5 and i7 chips, which produce at least 50% better performance for the same clock speed in most applications, and an 80% boost in graphics, which affects gaming, video playback and animation.

This reduces the price of the previous models by at least $100, which isn’t really enough to justify upgrading from an older model to the one eliminated by the updates.

The bottom model of 15″ is $1799. They go up from there: faster chips, bigger hard drives. All new models have 4Gb RAM with the capability of 8Gb (for an additional $400!) Larger drives are available, as are SSD (solid-state drives; no moving parts, fast!) for $800 more (yow!)
